Potato Harvest 2026

Every year around June, we go potato digging at my grandmother’s house.

My aunt does all the work by herself — planting the potatoes, taking care of them, and harvesting them. So whenever we can, we take the kids with us and help her.

I think it’s important for children to touch the soil and learn a little about farming. It’s a fun experience, but it’s also a great opportunity for them to learn where the food on our tables comes from. 🌱

March 15 — Planting the Seed Potatoes

We make holes in the soil and plant the seed potatoes one by one by hand.

The key is to plant them neither too deep nor too shallow. Getting the depth just right is a skill that comes with experience — it’s a real professional technique! 👩‍🌾🥔

June 7 — Harvest Day

So, how did the potatoes turn out this year?

Apparently, they were big, plentiful, and almost completely free from insects. It sounds like we had a very good harvest this year!

After the potatoes are dug up by a machine, we sort them by hand, separating the beautiful, healthy potatoes from the ones that have a greenish color.
