What is Chubbing?

カワムツ、オイカワ、ウグイなど川の小物と呼ばれる魚をルアーで狙う釣りです。英名ではこれらの魚は「Chub」が付くことから、「チャビング」と呼ばれています。
Chubbing is a style of lure fishing that targets small river fish such as Kawamutsu, Oikawa, and Ugui. In English, these fish are often grouped under the name “chub,” which is where the name “Chubbing” comes from.

ゲーム性があって楽しい！！
It’s fun and surprisingly challenging!

小魚は好奇心が旺盛でルアーを果敢に追いかけますが、口が小さいため針に掛けるのが意外と難しく、魚との駆け引きを存分に味わうことができます。身近な川や水路で手軽に楽しめることや、ゲーム性の高さから人気を集めており、子どもや初心者にもおすすめのライトな釣りとしてインスタグラムなどでもじわじわと今キテいる釣りです！
These little fish are very curious and eagerly chase lures. However, because their mouths are so small, they’re surprisingly difficult to hook. That’s what makes it so much fun! It’s easy to enjoy in local rivers and streams, making it a great fishing style for beginners and children. It’s also becoming more and more popular on Instagram.

初めてのチャビングいざ！！Our first Chubbing adventure!

私は夫に誘われ、今回は千葉県鴨川市のある川へ。水の透明度が高く、小鳥が鳴いているだけで気持ちよかったです。
My husband invited me to try Chubbing, so we headed to a river in Kamogawa City, Chiba. The water was crystal clear, and just listening to the birds made it such a relaxing place.

私が使ったのはこちらの竿。
This is the rod I used.

5年前に中古品屋で買ったもので、しなりがとてもあるものです。
We bought it second-hand about five years ago, and it has a very flexible action.

スプーンはこれらを色々使い回して使いました。始めはピンク→オレンジ→ゴールド。ゴールドが1番反応してくれました！
I tried several spoons, starting with pink, then orange, and finally gold. The gold one got the best reaction!

今回の狙いは..カワムツ！！Our target was… Kawamutsu!

いざ川へ降りると、そこにはカワムツの群れ。水が綺麗なので見ることができます。
As soon as we got into the river, we could see a whole school of Kawamutsu because the water was so clear.

反応がよく、追いかけてくるのですが、スプーン自体があまり重くないので遠くに投げられず、ストロークが短いので食い切る前に巻き終わってしまいます。
They chased the lure really well, but the spoon was so light that I couldn’t cast very far. The retrieve was also too short, so they often couldn’t bite before the lure reached me.

この日はなかなか難しく、場所を変えながら2時間くらい投げましたが1匹も釣れず…
It was much harder than I expected. Even after moving around and fishing for about two hours, I didn’t catch a single fish…

ということで！！！リベンジ！！So… we came back for revenge!

翌週、私たちはどうしても諦めきれず、もう一度同じ場所へ行きました。
The following week, we just couldn’t give up, so we went back to the same river.

前回の反省点は、針が魚に対して少し大きすぎたこと。そこで釣具屋さんでチャビング用の小さな針を買いました。
We thought the hook we used the first time was simply too big, so we bought a much smaller hook made for Chubbing.

そして、1番小さなスプーンを使いました。
We also switched to the smallest spoon we had.

そしたら！！待望の1匹目！！！（私1）
And then… I finally caught my very first fish!!

綺麗なオレンジの入ったカワムツでした。
It was a beautiful Kawamutsu with bright orange coloring.

場所を変えて少し深さのあるところへ行くと…もう1匹！！（夫1）
After moving to a slightly deeper spot, my husband caught one too!

私がゴールドに変えてみると…反応が明らかに変わり、2匹目！とっても小さい子でしたが！（ぺったり手にくっついちゃってごめんなさい😂）

Then I switched back to the gold spoon, and the fish reacted much better. I caught my second one! It was tiny… and yes, it stuck to my hand! Sorry, little fish! 😂

いやーーっ！楽しかった！

It was so much fun!

もっとじゃんじゃん釣りたかったけど、先週から改善できて釣れたのは本当に嬉しかったです。
I wish we had caught even more, but I was really happy that we learned from last week’s mistakes and finally succeeded.

楽しい釣りのあとは…ご褒美ランチ！After fishing, it was time for a reward lunch! 🍕

PIZZERIA BOSSOに行きました！
We went to PIZZERIA BOSSO.

今回頼んだのは、サラダとポテト、そしてイワシピザ！
We ordered a salad, fries, and their sardine pizza.

このイワシピザがもう絶品！！本当に今まで食べたピザの中で1番美味しかった！！！
The sardine pizza was absolutely amazing! Honestly, it was the best pizza I’ve ever had.

口いっぱいに広がるチーズとイワシの旨み。本当に感動しました。
The rich cheese and the flavor of the sardines filled my mouth. It was unforgettable.

そしてびっくりしたのがサービスの野菜ピクルス。これがもうめちゃくちゃ美味しい！野菜の味がしっかりしていて、さっぱりしているのに酸っぱすぎない。気づいたら全部食べていました。
I was also surprised by the complimentary vegetable pickles. They were incredibly delicious! Fresh, flavorful, refreshing, and not too sour. I couldn’t stop eating them.
