What is Mini 4WD?

Mini 4WD is a four-wheel drive motor racing hobby, currently experiencing its fourth boom in popularity.

The design is simple: a chassis with a motor, gears, shaft, tires, and battery, topped with a lightweight body. However, the precise engineering and deep customization options make it a fascinating hobby.

Mini 4WD’s appeal lies in its easy assembly and instant racing, as well as the ability to modify the car using official upgrade parts (known as G.U.P.) to improve speed by even 0.1 seconds!

There are official Tamiya-sponsored competitions and Mini 4WD Station races, where enthusiasts can compete.

To participate, racers must build a car following the official regulations, ensuring fair competition.

The challenge is to build the fastest, most powerful machine within the rules!

RC Paradise ROUTE 66

RC Paradise ROUTE 66 is a store with a large Mini 4WD circuit and an extensive collection of Mini 4WD products, including rare and premium items that are hard to find elsewhere.

The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, making it a great place for beginners.

Since many experienced racers visit the store, it’s also a great learning opportunity!

The entry fees are affordable, and the track is impressively large, with plenty of space for maintenance!

During our visit, we purchased a reissued premium model—the NEO-VQS VS-Chassis—for ¥2,800!

Building the NEO-VQS VS-Chassis

The NEO-VQS comes with pre-installed custom parts that are usually sold separately.

Base Assembly

• Start by assembling the chassis.

• Apply grease to the gears for smooth movement.

• Sand down any excess plastic (burrs) to reduce resistance and improve rotation efficiency—these small details can impact speed by 0.1 seconds!

• This kit includes a lightweight, reinforced drive shaft (green), which is usually sold separately.

• Apply grease to the shaft and gears to reduce wear and improve lubrication.

• Install the tires, then the motor—the included Light Dash Motor is a strong performer.

At this stage, the Mini 4WD is ready to run!

Customization

To enhance performance, we added:

• Low-friction 13mm rollers → Improves smooth cornering.

• FRP wide stay → Reduces instability on wide tracks.

• Mass dampers → Improves stability during jumps.

Body Sticker Application

Using tweezers, we carefully applied the stickers to complete the look!

Now, the car is ready, but further tuning—such as changing motors or upgrading parts—will create a one-of-a-kind Mini 4WD machine!

4度目のブーム到来？！

四輪駆動モーターレーシングホビーで、現在4度目のブームがきているそう。

公認競技会というタミヤ主催のイベントやレースが開催されています。

競技会に出場するためには、規定に沿ったマシンを作らなければなりません。なので、すべてのレーサーが同じ規定で走るという公正なレースです。規定の範囲内でどれだけ速く強いオリジナルなマシンを作れるかの腕の見せ所です！

豊富な品揃えと、ミニ四駆サーキット場を完備したお店。

電気屋さんなどでは手に入らないようなプレミアがつくようなものも置いてありました。お店の方はとても優しく丁寧で、初心者にもとっても親切です。

詳しい人、ガチな大人がたくさんいるからとっても勉強になるかも！！

料金も高くなく、初心者でも始めやすい！

今回、お店で購入したのはプレミアがついていたものが、再販されたということで、そちらを購入！¥2,800でした。それが、NEO-VQS VS-chassis

NEO-VQS VS-chassis 組み立て

今回はその、NEO-VQS VS-chassisの組み立てを簡単に説明していきます！

NEO-VQS には普通ついていないような、カスタムパーツが元々ついているそう。

【ベース部分】

まずはシャーシの組み立てから。

ギアのところにグリスを塗りながら、丁寧に組み立てていく。

バリをきちんとヤスリで落とすことで抵抗をなくし、回転効率を上げることに繋げる。この小さな手間が0.1秒にかかってくるんだそう。

本来ならば別売りの軽量化されているチュークシャフトが入っていた！(緑)

(普通のキットは軽量化されていないチュークシャフトが入ってる)

付属のグリスをシャフトに、ギアとギアの摩耗軽減と潤滑剤として添付。

その次にタイヤを設置。

その後モーター。付属はライトダッシュモーター！そのままつけていく。

ここまで組み立てれば走るは走る！

ここまでがひと通りの製作過程でした！

ここから、モーターを変えたりパーツを交換させたりして世界にひとつだけのミニ四駆を完成させていく！
